Faculty

Sugat is an Assistant Professor at the School of Public Policy, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. His research is at the intersection of labor economics, innovation, and political economy. He focuses on topical social and economic issues, such as women's labor force participation in South Asia, impact of emerging technologies on jobs, and policy impact of political representation of women and minorities. He leverages natural language processing tools to identify emerging digital technologies from patents and publications, investigate gendered attributes in online job ads, and estimate polarization on social media. Before joining IIT Delhi, he served as an Assistant Professor at Ahmedabad University, as a Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit, University of Sussex, and as a Visiting Faculty in the Department of Economics at Ashoka University. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi.
