Vikas Nimesh is an Assistant Professor at the School of Public Policy, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, specializing in Green and sustainable transportation, energy policy, and urban governance. His research examines the intersection of transport, energy, and environmental systems to develop inclusive and policy-relevant solutions for India’s transition to clean mobility. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, Dr. Nimesh served as a Principal Research Associate at the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), where he led high-impact national projects on Electric Vehicle (EV) market transformation, decarbonisation of India’s Cold Chain infrastructure, and fleet electrification in Northeast India. His interdisciplinary approach bridges technical, economic, and institutional perspectives, enabling data-driven policymaking at the intersection of infrastructure development and sustainability. He has been actively engaged with NITI Aayog, DST, and various state transport departments, while also establishing meaningful partnerships with academia, industry, financial institutions and civil society through research, policy dialogues, and capacity-building initiatives. His research has been published in top-tier journals such as Energy Conversion and Management, Energy, Fuel and Case Studies on Transport Policy, alongside policy whitepapers and commentaries in leading media outlets like The Hindu, Indian Express, The Economic Times and Financial Express etc.

  • Sustainable Mobility Systems: EV adoption and charging infrastructure, fleet electrification strategies, vehicle retrofitting, and smart urban mobility planning

  • Energy & Climate Policy: Transport decarbonization roadmaps, travel demand modeling, automation and shared mobility impacts, and integration of renewable energy into transport systems

  • Equitable and Just Transitions in Sustainable Mobility: Socioeconomic impact assessment, workforce reskilling, affordable mobility, region-specific transition strategies, gender-responsive planning, and inclusive solutions for underserved and rural communities

  • Technology & Innovation: Clean fuel applications (hydrogen, biofuels, hybrids), circular economy for EV & batteries, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems

  • Techno-Economic and Environmental Assessment: Life cycle assessment (LCA), total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis, and financial modeling for sustainable transport investments
