Prof. Sagnik Dey’s research interest is to understand air quality-climate-health nexus and generate strategic knowledge for formulating effective and sustainable air quality management policy in India. His research helped prioritising the relative importance of mitigating various individual sources, establishing a framework to estimate the health and climate benefits from achieving various air quality targets, generating pollution data for the entire country for use by pollution control boards and strengthening local evidence of air pollution health impacts on various child and adult health endpoints. Prof. Dey has published more than 90 peer-reviewed articles (with h-index 29) including articles in several high impact journals (e.g. Nature, Nature Communications, Nature Medicine, PNAS, Lancet, Lancet Global Health, Lancet Planetary Health, Environ. Sci. Technol., BAMS).
He received INSA Young Scientist Medal in 2008, NASI-SCOPUS Young Scientist Award in 2012, Dr Sudhansu Kumar Banerji MoES Young Faculty Fellowship from 2011-13, IIT Delhi Teaching Excellence Award in 2016 and Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Award in 2017-18. He is an expert member of WHO Southeast Asia regional technical advisory group for non-communicable diseases and science team member of NASA's MAIA satellite mission. He is Associate Editor of Atmospheric Environment (Elsevier Journal), and Editorial Board member of Scientific Reports (Nature Journal) and Earth System Dynamics (EGU Journal). He is a collaborator of Global Burden of Disease and Local Burden of Disease study aimed at tracking the health of the global population at various administrative (country, state, districts) levels and understanding the observed trends in terms of socio-economic, environmental, epidemiological and demographic factors.
