Title: Public policy in real world: Some reminiscences from science ministry
This lecture will discuss how new programs or interventions are conceived, designed, launched and implemented with selected case studies from the speaker’s real world experience at the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt of India. It focuses on two thematic areas, firstly – programs for improving the innovative and critical thinking among school students, and secondly – programs for improving the gender parity in science & technology sector. Furthermore, some “experiments” in program-delivery which have given positive results during program implementation are shared along with with some challenging areas. The lecture tries to demystify, based upon own experience, underlying reasons of success of programs in certain states, districts or institutions
Dr Sanjay Mishra has studied DPhil in Biomedical Engineering at Oxford University, authored about two dozen research papers, book chapters in areas of biomechanics, Finite Element Modelling, higher education and teaching learning. He has worked in academia in India, the USA and Australia for more than 20 years. After return to India in 2012 he has joined Department of Science & Technology (DST) as Advisor and moved to Department of Biotechnology (DBT) in 2021 as Senior Advisor. He has also contributed opinion and research pieces to Economic & Political Weekly, Times Higher Education THE UK.
